Layout Management (Scommerce)

Job Description

• As the architect of warehouse layout optimization, you will design and continuously improve the warehouse's spatial layout, including the planning of storage zones (such as pallet racks, shelving areas, and bulk storage), the arrangement of picking paths, and the allocation of functional areas (like receiving, inspection, packaging, and shipping zones).

• You will analyze factors such as product turnover rate, storage requirements, and operational flow to maximize space utilization and minimize material handling distances. For example, high-turnover products should be placed in easily accessible areas, and the layout of cross-docking zones should be optimized to shorten the time between inbound and outbound.

• You will track indicators such as space utilization rate, material handling efficiency, and operational path rationality, and adjust the layout based on business growth, product structure changes, or the introduction of new equipment (such as automated storage and retrieval systems). Warehouse staff will follow your layout plans and zone management rules when performing put-away, picking, and moving operations. You will also provide training to ensure that the team understands the logic behind the layout and can implement it effectively.
  
  

Requirements

• 1–5 years of experience in warehouse layout planning, facility management, or supply chain operations, with a proven track record in optimizing spatial layouts; candidates with relevant internship experience in large-scale warehouses or distribution centers are considered.

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data on product turnover, storage requirements, and operational flow to inform layout decisions.

• Familiarity with warehouse operations (inbound, outbound, inventory management) and material handling equipment, understanding how their workflows interact with spatial design.

• Knowledge of storage systems (e.g., pallet racking types, shelving configurations) and their suitability for different product characteristics (size, weight, turnover).

• Proficiency in using layout planning tools (e.g., CAD software, warehouse simulation tools) and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL) to design layouts and track space utilization metrics.

• Experience in developing layout documentation, zone management rules, and training materials for warehouse staff.

• Adaptability to adjust layouts in response to dynamic factors such as business growth, new product lines, or technological upgrades.

• Good communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams (inbound, outbound, inventory, equipment maintenance) and gather input on layout needs.

• Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards related to warehouse layout (e.g., fire codes, aisle width requirements) is preferred.

• Proficient in verbal and written English communication, with the ability to document layout plans and collaborate with international teams if needed.
