Warehouse Automation Engineering Consultant

Detailed Description

• Concept and architect automated warehouse systems and standards that support these systems
• Analysis of inputs and User Requirements in order to determine feasibility of systems that meet specifications
• Must be capable of designing systems from sketches or verbal concepts
• Perform engineering calculations with respect to cycle time, loads, standard packaging types
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to determine requirements in the development of equipment to meet specifications
• Produce working drawings, models and bills of materials for equipment, in collaboration with Suppliers
• Work with large global logistics integrators to optimize systems from technical information and specifications
• Analyze designs and systems for compliance to applicable standards (i.e. CE or customer specific)
• Make recommendations for warehouse systems based on available input and analysis
• Review drawings for accuracy, material selection, proper machining techniques, finishes, hardness, etc.
• Communicate all requested design changes to various teams
• Responsible for communicating progress on tasks
• Formalize and update drawing documentation
• Liaise with fabricators, machinists, toolmakers and electricians in the completion of equipment and resolving problems. A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

• A working knowledge of common machine shop techniques
• Must have thorough knowledge of drafting principles
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD and/or Solidworks
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a Mechanical Engineer with Strong background in Material Handling/Robotics/ automation industry
• Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Assist in preparing customer documentation
• Adhere to all Health and Safety rules and procedures
• Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings safely
• Complete other duties and projects as assigned
• Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and or travel as required in varying timelines
• Ensure scheduled milestones are met

Typical Experience

• Minimum 10 years in automation design of logistics and warehouse automation systems concepting large [$1-5+M] projects

Typical Education

• Has successfully completed either a University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering/Robotics Automation Technology
